Using the site
Everything here is free to read, with no account and no paywall. You may read it, print it, save it, and send it to whoever you like.
Quoting and republishing
Quoting a paragraph or two with a link back to the original is always fine and needs no permission. Attribution should name Explainly and link to the article.
Republishing a whole explainer, translating one, or reproducing several at once needs written permission first. It is usually granted. Ask through the contact page.
Using the contents of this site to train a machine learning model is not permitted without written permission. The site's robots file states the same thing in the form crawlers read.
What an explainer is, and is not
The pieces here explain concepts. They are general explanations written for a general reader, and they are not advice about your particular circumstances.
- A piece explaining a medical concept is not medical advice. Ask a doctor.
- A piece explaining a financial or legal term is not financial or legal advice. Ask someone qualified and paid to look at your situation.
- A piece explaining how a technology works is not an instruction manual for operating it safely.
Accuracy
We work to get things right, and the editorial policy sets out how. We cannot promise that every sentence is correct at every moment, particularly on subjects that move. Where you are relying on something important, check it against the primary source we point at.
If you find an error, please report it. That is how this gets better.
External links
Links point outward to sources and further reading. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for what they publish or how they treat your data.
